Since the weather has been above 50 degrees lately I’ve been getting in some major wear time with my Speckled Vans Authentics. Whether I casually pair them with jeans and a t-shirt, or a mini-dress or maxi skirt, these shoes have been making a daily appearance in my wardrobe this Spring. I also can NOT get enough of my new favorite handbag, the Vans Breakers bag. -brittany

Our friend Charlavail has been busy painting away on some Vans Classics for the winners of our Classic & Charlavail contest the last few weeks. This week she is also showing you how to make a pair of cute vintage inspired lace trim socks to wear with your Vans. Here’s the tutorial from her below, and be sure to enter the contest to win custom shoes, tees, patches, and stickers over on our Facebook Page. Supplies:
Scissors
Needle
Thread
Lace
Socks

The most important thing is to make sure the sock is stretched out at that top when you sew the lace to it. You can stitch it by hand or using a sewing machine. If you use a sewing machine just pull the sock elastic as you go.

It’s that time of year: Back to school season.  From one student to another, I can tell you: it’s always a love-hate relationship.  Amanda asked you guys on the Vans Girls Twitter if you wanted some DIY ideas for apartments and dorms, so I decided to let you guys in on what I’m doing to make my dorm cute and personalized. Last year, I basically failed at customizing my room.  I refuse to repeat my mistakes for this year.  So don’t let the bulky wooden furniture that they give you drag you down, we’re in this together!

You all know that we are obsessed with the A Beautiful Mess blog.  Inspired by their Floral and Wire Words DIY, I made my own floral letters, using mine and my roommate Erin’s initials to hang on our kitchen wall.

I also upgraded simple glass bottles with lace ribbon to make a feminine vase.  To make your own, just paint Mod Podge around the bottom of the bottle, wrap the lace around the area starting from the bottom-up, and let it dry for 15 minutes. So easy!

Making my own décor has made me totally anxious to move back in and get to fixing up my room.  So excited to show you all the final product!-alyson

Inspired by my all time favorite Disney character, Minnie Mouse, I gave my red Authentics a much needed makeover. They’ve been through a lot, so it was the least I could do. This Spring, it’s all about the polka dots. They’re cute, feminine, and fun to mix with other patterns… if you can’t tell, I’m rather obsessed.

Here’s what you need for this simple DIY: a pair of Authentics, white paint (you can use acrylic, gauche, or fabric paint), a paint brush, a pencil, water bottle cap, and 4 yards of lace ribbon.

  • You were probably wondering why you would need a bottle cap since it’s a bit random, but it will actually come in handy as you trace circles on the shoe.
  • Once you’re done tracing circles, use the paint to fill them in.
  • Depending on the thickness of your paint, you may want to add a second coat.
  • Let dry for a few hours.
  • After they are completely dry, lace your ribbon through the eyelets.
  • Tie them in a pretty bow, and you’re good to go.

DIY: Make It Your Own

We have a new DIY for you guys that’s all about taking one standard piece and making it your own. I got together with a few of the girls here at the office and we each applied some our favorite techniques to the same piece to get our own look. We started with the Vans Top Rank and used bleach, dye, studs, lace, glue, scissors, and paint to customize. Watch the video below to learn how to make your own.
