Q&A with Katy Goodman of La Sera

We recently caught up with Katy Goodman of La Sera & Vivian Girls for a little Q&A. See what she had to say below and watch La Sera’s new music video for the song Please Be My Third Eye. Plus, you can follow her here on tumblr. Photo above by Magda Wosinska.
Where Did your nickname ‘Kickball Katy’ come from?
When I was 18, I went to college briefly in Rochester, New York at RIT and they had something called the Super Secret Kickball Society. It has to do with that but I’m not allowed to talk about it.
Favorite 80’s movie?
Umm… a movie called Nobody’s Perfect. It’s a movie where a boy dresses up like a girl to be on the women’s tennis team at his college because he was in love with a girl on the team. That’s the only way that he can come up with to get closer to her.
Did you grow up wanting to be a musician?
No, I didn’t think I’d ever be a musician really… well I played saxophone in band growing up, like high school band and stuff. I didn’t know I’d be like a professional musician until a couple of years ago when Vivian Girls started to do okay.
What’s one of your most embarrassing tour stories?
When Vivian Girls played at the Rough Trade Shops in London, like an in-store, and my dress had come unzipped all the way down the side and I didn’t know until the end of the set… I was basically in my underwear the entire time and it was being filmed for the Rough Trade DVD Series, so there is now an entire DVD of my bra and underwear hanging out the side of my dress. That’s the problem with a lot of girls I know who play music. You wear cute dresses and you never really know what’s going to happen, so I’ve seen a lot of really funny outfit mishaps.
Words you live by?
I live by the golden rule, which is do unto others as you want done to yourself. I feel like that applies to almost every single situation.
